Engineered Wood Flooring, Bicester

We really enjoyed creating this beautiful engineered wood flooring for a stunning period cottage in Bicester.

Our customer originally contacted us from Italy, before moving to the UK. She wanted a floor that would really complement the character of the cottage – something with warmth, depth and natural detail.

After discussing everything remotely over Zoom and working from photographs, we sourced and supplied this beautiful Kährs engineered wooden flooring. An engineered floor is constructed in multiple layers, with the top wear layer made of materials such as oak, and the other layers typically made of spruce or pine. This multi-layer design offers several advantages, such as minimizing wood’s natural movement through seasonal changes and enabling more efficient use of raw materials. Also using spruce/pine as a middle layer makes it stable for use over underfloor heating and is more stable than plywood.

Kährs is a Swedish company that has been producing beautiful, sustainable wood flooring since 1857 – this flooring will last a lifetime.

Once the existing carpet was removed, we discovered the subfloor needed considerable preparation. The old smoothing compound hadn’t been applied correctly, so this had to be rectified and the floor properly prepared and re-smoothed before installation.

Being a period cottage, there was also plenty of detailed scribing and cutting around the uneven edges, which really made a difference the end result.

Everything -from choosing the flooring to sourcing and supplying it – was organised before our customer even arrived in the UK.

She was absolutely over the moon with the finished floor, and we have to say, this is genuinely one of the most beautiful engineered wood floors we’ve ever fitted.
